Significance Of Breast Cancer Screening

Breast cancer is ranked as second most common killer in women. Late detection is the biggest obstacle faced in the way of surviving from this disease successfully. Early detection is now considered a key in living for more years.

To detect breast cancer earlier it is important to screen your breasts regularly. Breast cancer screening techniques are aimed at detecting any abnormality before it may cause a proper cancer development in breasts. 

Mammography is taken as a key in early detection of breast cancer.Diagnostic ammography is used to detect breast cancer when some abnormality is being shown in screening mammogram.Mammogram test is performed by a radiologist using x-ray machine. X-rays of breasts are taken from different angles and then are read by radiologist. If some abnormality is shown in screening mammogram then diagnostic mammography is recommended.

Basically mammogram tests are taken as a bit painful tests because it involves compression of breasts between two plates of x-ray machine. Still importance of mammography in the way of early detection of breast cancer can’t be denied. It does cause pain for a few minutes but not for consistently long time.

A regular breast check performed every month is a great help in catching any abnormality before a cancer is developed. Women above forty are advised to be regular in annual mammogram test.However breast cancer has become a global epidemic, so women of all ages are at breast cancer risk. Thus all women above twenty should also schedule a monthly breast exam by themselves.
